Cheviot Hills Soaring
This October, several club members went to Milfield up near the Scottish border on a regular club expedition. The landscape around our own airfield is pretty flat but Milfield is close to the Cheviot Hills which can provide ridge soaring opportunities and wave lift to sustain a glider even when the summer thermals are not working.
Stuart, our club manager, sent back this video taken from a wing tip camera.
In the film he is gliding over the Cheviot Hills under an autumn sky.

Passion
Here A Puchacz glider is winch launched to 2000' in 35 seconds. This extraordinary video shows the launch from a rear facing camera on the nose of the glider.
Watch how Stuart makes tiny movements on the controls that make the glider role through the sky.
Just before landing watch out for his left arm pulling back the air brake lever and see the brakes open to control the approach.

Fun
Mr Smith's children treated him to a flight on a spring day in 2011. It turned out that somebody in the family also worked for the BBC and was adept at making movies.
This film conveys something of the rhythm of an afternoon at the airfield.
Come along and have a flight.

Freedom
Cathy is an instructor. She talks here about how she took up gliding after her family had grown up. This film was shown on national television in 2009 as part of an advertising campaign for sausages, the slogan was "Bring it On Granny".
Cathy regularly takes visitors on trial flights around the local skies, come along and meet her.
